![]() Gently place it upon a silken microfiber shrine of soft plushness using the touch of an angel? Guess what? Scratch! Oh, you've put your phone into your pocket? Scratch. I want my precious scratch resistance back LOL. Microscratches sure, but GOUGES? WTF? I guess Victus glass & onward, a screen protector and case will be *required* to keep your phone looking nice? For the first time in like, 15 years? Bullshit! That's 50 steps in the wrong direction. The pixel 7 pro I ordered on launch is covered in gouges- I haven't had a gouge since phone screens were made from plastic. This change is 100% unjustified for a user like me. I've dropped my phones once or twice a year, but never shattered. I have owned many smart phones since the release of the first iphone- I personally have never 'shattered' a screen. I saw people in the comments saying they'd prefer a shatter-proof screen over a scratch-proof screen. Making us buy their warranties, or some sort of agreement with ubreakifix, or with gorilla glass. IDK how else to put it, but this glass feels like a conspiracy to me. Could Victus be better? Sure, and that's why we have Victus 2. I feel like this attitude that suddenly the Pixel 6 and 7 saw a regression in scratch performance is just the wrong narrative. For the record your Pixels 2, 3, 4 all use GG5, so if Victus is really THAT bad, then all those phones should've been dog shit for scratch resistance. Other than that normal wear and tear was the same.Īlso I find it interesting that all of a sudden Victus is the worst thing in the world when some earlier versions like Gorilla Glass 5 is actually even worse for scratch resistance. I will point out that during my Pixel 4 days, my iPhone 12 scratched the hell out of the Pixel screen due to the protruding sapphire lenses having sharp edges and my bad habit of stacking the phones together. Looking at my Pixel 7 Pro and 6 Pro versus my earlier Pixels (1, 3, 4), I don't see the screens being particularly any worse for normal wear and tear. IIRC Apple's Ceramic Shield is comparable too and I've gone caseless & screen protector-less on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro for work and I don't see them as any more scratched than my earlier phones. I thought the marketing of Victus is that it matches the scratch resistance of earlier GG? Did anyone actually test the hardness using objective measurements or is this all based on subjective feel?
